Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1952. A central member of "Carol" (1972-75), who took the world by storm with their leather jackets, pompadours, and rock "n" roll. He handled vocals and guitar, primarily writing lyrics.
He established Japanese-language rock "n" roll with hits like "Funky Monkey Baby." After Carol disbanded, he pursued a solo career as a musician while also demonstrating exceptional talent as an actor.
In 1982, he won the Japan Academy Prize for Best Actor for "Distant Thunder." He appeared in numerous hit films including "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" (1983) and "Chinpira" (1984).
