CD Description : On Thanksgiving Day 1976, 5,000 fans gathered to cheer The Band's historic farewell concert. In the words of lead guitarist Robbie Robertson, "We wanted to make it a celebration." And the record of the event, lovingly filmed by Martin Scorsese, shows the same thing now and then. The Last Waltz is more than just a concert film. Scorsese intersperses exploratory and humorous interviews with the group. What emerges is a unique insider's perspective on rock's golden age. Superstars Neil Diamond, Joani Mitchell, Muddy Waters and virtuoso guitarist Eric Clapton join The Band on stage, culminating in the return of former collaborators Bob Dylan and former Beatle Ringo Starr on "I Shall Be Released". Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Van Morrison, The Staples, Dr John, Muddy Waters and Paul Butterfield, It also includes performances by Ron Wood and others. |
