CD Description :
This collection of legendary artists and forgotten performers (the latter being more common for most people) delivering fantastic live and lip-synced performances is
one disc in a 5-disc box set. Following gThe San Francisco Sound,h it explores 1960s trends, with the ever-present Casey Kasem serving as your guide.
The Doors, led by Jim Morrison, performing gPeople Are Strangeh on The Ed Sullivan Show,
and The Who's gMy Generationh from their 1967 performance on gThe Smothers Brothers Comedy Hourh (which was infamous for the unexpected loud explosion at the end of the song caused by drummer Keith Moon packing extra gunpowder into his drum set).
Eric Clapton's Cream (jamming on gSunshine Loveh) and Jimi Hendrick (performing gPurple Hazeh) are also featured.
Cream, which Eric Clapton was also a member of (jamming on gSunshine Loveh), Jimi Hendrick (performing "Purple Haze. The sound and picture quality are poor, but
it's Jimi Hendrix, after all, and the interview after the performance is extremely valuable),
and you can also see live footage of Janis Joplin (gTryh) after she left Big Brother and the Holding Company. Footage of other artists, including the Small Faces (gItchycoo Parkh),
the originators of heavy metal, Blue Cheer (gSummertime Bluesh), and Canned Heat (gOn the Road Againh), appears to be lip-synched and
does not leave much of an impression. Still, seeing them like this is a big deal regardless. The most pitiful scene, however, is the Beatles segment where
John, Paul, George, and Jimmy Nicol?who briefly filled in on drums for Ringo when he was unwell and couldn't tour?are being interviewed.(Sam Graham, Amazon.com) |
